Tiny plastic particles may be floating in your bottled water.
The new research conducted by Orb Media, a nonprofit journalism organization, and the State University of New York found microplastics in 93 percent of the bottles tested.
Researchers tested 250 bottles from 11 different brands, including Aquafina, San Pellegrino, Dasani and Nestle.
The study found on average 10.4 plastic particles per liter of water.
“It’s not catastrophic, the numbers that we’re seeing, but it is concerning,” said Sherri Mason, a chemistry professor who contributed to the research.
International Bottled Water Association President, Joe Doss says these findings are “not based on sound science” and “do nothing more than unnecessarily scare consumers.”
It’s unclear what health risks this may pose, however, the World Health Organization now says it will launch a review.
